Chronology

The setup is appealing
Referred to in Close-Up: Anora (2024). Mikey Madison plays the title role, a dancer from New York. Then the story draws us in.
There is a standout performance from Madison, but all the performances are good
She unwisely marries (the immature young son of a Russian oligarch) and then finds herself in a terrible dead end. Excessive nudity and sex are not fashionable for a mainstream picture, but both this and the high drama — increasingly comic — have a rare vibe. Amazing locations — Las Vegas and Coney Island in the off season are skillfully captured.
The conclusion is not a disappointment
At over two hours, it’s too long, but it almost holds our attention because we can’t imagine how it’s going to end. London Film Festival screenings sold out and I’m not surprised.
